In the early days of my membership of this club - before we became Hemel Hempstead Movie Makers but were Hemel Hempstead Cine Society - I saw, on the odd occasion, an earlier member named Joan Allen.
Joan was a familiar face to many people. For she worked as a nurse at West Herts. Hospital; later known as Hemel Hempstead General Hospital.
Sadly, Joan died a few years ago. But what is interesting is the fact that somewhere along the line, in her early life, she seemed to be a prolific writer, meticulously capturing her early life in Hemel Hempstead.
Since her sad death, these documents have come to the attention to people interested in local history. And deservedly so. They capture a splendid lost and bygone era that is still only just in living memory of the human race.
There are at least six articles that have been diligently re-processed for the website Our Dacorum (www.ourdacorum.org.uk) click on and then look under the 'People' category for Joan Allen's Memories. It is a marvelous legacy which should not be missed, and will fascinate the reader.
